Marcel van Balken, PPSA, EFIAP/s, ELDAF, RISF3 of the Netherlands took up photography when he was 14 years old and bought his first camera, the Asahi Pentax Spotmatic F, at the age of 18.  This camera convinced him to became a member of a fotoclub.  He spent weekends and evenings in the darkroom where he started loving photography.

In 2000 he started working with digital imaging. With advanced software like Photoshop he is able to combine several negatives or slides to new exiting images.  As a photographer, he is interested in specific themes and believes in working thematically with an absolute preference for surrealistic and creative photography.  Through the use of sophisticated darkroom (and later digital) techniques, he is able to produce all kinds of special effects.  For the images at his website Photure Image Gallery he used digital manipulation but some of the images were done in the traditional way by camera and darkroom.

His pictures have won many awards, both nationally as well as internationally.  Alongside the awards and exhibitions there have been more than 135 publications of his work in several magazines, newspapers, books and several international websites.  At his own gallery and website Photure Image Gallery you can see more!
