January Title - Clown

How I did it -

This was taken at the traveling Cole Brothers Circus in Palm Beach. The clowns entertain between acts and I caught this one juggling for some children. I liked the silhouette of the ringmaster coming back into the tent for act two. I am having a show in June and the theme is the circus. I plan on having half in black and white and the other in the brilliant circus colors.
Taken with Canon 7D
Canon EF 100-400 lens
ISO 5000

COMMENTS:
David Halgrimson Great subject and the ball in the air works well. I also tend to like the person in the background, it adds some tension. I might crop a little off the top and even less off the bottom. The bright area my be a little too bright.
Mohammed Arfan Asif Good timing and action captured here. I would prefer you correct the slight vertical tilt using the background verticals as a reference. Also slightly deepening the background would help the viewer to first travel to the main element. I like it very much and good luck for your upcoming thematic exhibition.
Jerry Hug The photo really lends itself to many uses with a circus theme. You may consider cropping down a little from the top to take away some of the negative space in the upper right corner. How far? Your call.
Paul Hoffman

What a well seen image and you have timed it well with the ball’s and the man in the background. Personally I would have liked the man silently more separated from the clown. But the expression and placement of the clown is brilliant and I love the image.

Roc Godec Nice shot. I like the contrast but would prefer silhouette more to the right that wouldn't cover clown's hands – but this is just a minor detail.
Jim Baker This image should work very well for your upcoming show, Kim.  I like the figure of the ringmaster in silhouette.  I also like the action presented by the juggling but I would have adjusted my viewpoint slightly to the right to eliminate the dark line running through the clown’s face.

My father gave me his childhood bellows type Kodak camera when I was ten years old. Many hours were spent in my backyard photographing throughout the seasons. The ever-changing mysteries of my small world  were my inspiration. I found beauty in the twist of a leaf, the overlap of a bird's feathers or the glow in the heart of a flower. Nature astounds and delights me now - even more. It invites me to explore all its facets. Rather than skim the everyday world, I try to use an intensified awareness to linger long enough to find moments of exquisite beauty in the mundane and commonplace. For me, photography is beyond the mere craft of technology. It is a silent dialogue and profound exchange of ideas, insight, personal experience and understanding between myself and the viewer. Although a painter for many years, I have concentrated on photography for the past ten years. Nature and wildlife has been the focus that has taken me from as far south as Cape Horn and as far north as the Arctic. Now I spend quite a bit of time at our beautiful beaches and wetlands working on my next one-man show in July of 2012 at the Friends Art Gallery in Boca. I've studied and photographed nature's forms in many different ways, always hoping to capture the essence of my subjects. I hope to share this with those who see my work.
