July Title - The Watcher

How I did it -

This was my worst day every since starting photography, took two DSLR bodies with me to the shoot at the Black Country Museum in Birmingham, England. The first body was knocked over by some kids playing and ran straight into it, Swapped bodies and the main chip blew. I ended up using my wifes 4mp point and shoot. Must admit had so much fun, made me think. Was taking picture of wife and daughter skipping, did not realise the lady was standing there watching.

COMMENTS:
David Halgrimson This one has a lot going on and really commands a hard look. There are multiple tension areas that grab your eyes. I like this one. The clouds add an ominous look for me but adds to the overall image. Only thing I might do is add a slight vignette and perhaps remove the garbage can. Very nice.
Mohammed Arfan Asif Very nice image Paul. I like street photography and here you have caught the ambience of the scene very well. The lady there is integral to the image and takes us on to the fun scene. It may be argued that the scene is quite at a distance and the clarity is missing. But this actually helps to make the viewer more curious and journey into the picture. The stormy sky, the patterned pathway and brick walls makes it very interesting. The tonal range enhances the quality.
Jerry Hug Technically this photo is outstanding. I probably would suggest taking out the garbage can on the left side of the image. There is a real dichotomy in viewing the image. There is the darkness to the lady with the hat with the rain cloud in the background vs. the jump rope action in the center of the image. I also like the perspective of the roadway and the buildings.

Jim Baker A great situational image of the lone lady watching the street scene.  Great lead line with people in the street and brick and stone buildings on either side.  The sky behind is very supportive of the composition.  I like every element of this image.  Sorry about your equipment mishaps.

Paul Hoffman – Biography

Hello from England.  I live in Cheltenham in the Cotswolds.

I spent 35 years in the Printing industry producing many magazines and periodicals and was trained professionally in darkroom techniques. Owing to ill health I had to stop work 18 months ago. I now spend most of my time helping to run Cheltenham Camera Club and entering photographic competitions. I started photography 35/40 years ago but stop for a while to concentrate on my sporting activities. I was a very good cyclist and golfer but specialised at lawn bowls reaching county and national levels. Looking for fresh challenges I took up photography again. Since then I have gained local accreditation of CPAGB & BPE1*. My images have been published in multiple magazines and periodicals. For the last 4 years I have been chasing awards in FIAP Internationals - with no success but many acceptances. This year that all changed and I have been awarded a PSA Gold, two bronze and many other awards.  This means that I have achieved my AFIAP and I am in the process of claiming this and am also claiming 3 PSA star awards.  I have just received a Silver medal in the PAGB national championship. I am an advanced worker in Photoshop currently using CS3 and Lightroom. My passion is portraits and cars.
