How I Did It

I made this image in 2007 on my way to Leh in north India. Originally it was a coloured image, but I converted it to black & white after down loading it in Picture Project of Nikon.

I converted it into B&W because of snow and clouds.

You have chosen a different composition than usual for a mountain scene. Making the mountains small and the sky and clouds large give an enhanced perception of space and distance. The change to B and W seems a good option.

On my screen the clouds seem a bit dull, and the shadows are blocked up. The mountain peak could be sharpened more.

Karen Kaiser

This image is very powerful in black and white. The clouds
in the upper 2/3 of the photograph frame the mountain peak and balance the dark slopes in the foreground nicely. The visible detail in the dark areas draws the eye right into the center. Awesome view!

Howard Frank

I like the clouds, their detail and the perspective and the detail of the center mountain. I keep looking at the foreground mountains on either side and am bothered by their lack of detail. I wonder if lightening them a bit would bring it out.

Denise Borgess

Lovely crisp black and white and your composition is well done.

Anita Luellen

This image has a nice composition and a good range of tonal values. I didn't sense much visual impact in this photograph.

Roxanne Overton

This image has real impact. The choice of B&W makes it even more powerful. Did you consider flipping it horizonally? To my eye, it would be more balanced if the dark corner were on the bottom right. Very nice!

Member Bio

Subhash Sapru APSA

A PR man by profession and  photographer by choice, I live in Chandigarh in India where I graduated with Hons. in Geography  and  did post-graduation in  the same subject. While doing Post-graduate Diploma in Journalism, I had started my career as a freelance journalist. Later on I joined Public Relations Department of a State Government where photography is not a part of my profession.

I had taken up the hobby of photography in my early teens and over the years my interest in this form of art and expression has grown with my age. I have been actively participating in some of the prominent international exhibitions within India and abroad since 1997 and have  held two solo shows in my home town.

Having used conventional film cameras for a long time, about two years ago I shifted to  digital photography, but with a little inhibition. Now I find it more convenient and has joined this study group to learn and improve my skill in electronic imaging. I like to capture the element of human interest and storytelling images.

I was introduced to Photographic Society of America in 1998 and that opened new photographic opportunities for me. In the year 2008, I was awarded the distinction of APSA. I also have two stars in PJ. Earlier, in 2003 I was also made an Associate of India International Photographic Council (IIPC), New Delhi.

Apart from being a member of PSA, I am also a Life Member of IIPC and Federation of Indian Photography (FIP), Kolkata. My contributions have been published by some of  the leading newspapers and magazines like PSA  Journal and View Finder of FIP.

I am indebted to my brother Mr Brij M. Sapru for nursing my interest in photography all these years and equally important is the support of my wife and daughter.
