Title :Infra red Nevada church

How I did it:

During our travel to ghost towns in Nevada last year, we found this beautiful church.  This was taken with our D90 Color Infrared converted camera.  The sky was perfect for the image.  The original image is this red and grey photo.  Step 1 of the conversion is to adjust the red, blue, and green levels which results in this blue and gold image.  Then I used NIK silver efex pro 2 with the '006-high structure' setting.  I used the sliders available to adjust the whites and blacks in the image.  Unbelievably, I did nothing to the sky - I thought it was beautiful as is.  What do you think ??  I have just started entering it in competition.

I think it is fantastic! The technique obviously works very well for you and the sky complements the detail in the church. Should do very well in competitions. Congratulations!

I think you've managed to have the best conditions to capture this picturesque church. You have  very good light and a remarkable sky giving a perfect environment. The only thing I would do to improve it, is darkening a little the cloud sector behind the bottom of the cross, which is a bit confusing.

This is a beautiful church, and I agree with you that the sky is nice with the clouds.  At first, I thought about cropping some of it out, but when I tried that, I decided that I liked it the way you have it.  The only thing I’m wondering is whether I might crop a little more off the left side, or whether that would make the image too centered.

It looks just great to me. I love the sky—it makes the image.

I’ve shot this church, or one just like it.  A great story behind it, and a great story of the mining camp.  I think the original church got moved to another town, and this is a replica/re-build.  Not a problem.  It’s authentic and looks great.  Sky and clouds are just right.  Perfect.
