Minnesota Falls

How I did it

Image is of a section of the upper falls at Minneopa State Park, MN.  I don't have a lot of experience photographing waterfalls, but am happy with this one.
ISO 640 at f/13, 1/13 second, 18-200 at 65mm.  Minimal cropping.  In Lightroom, used the "punch" preset, and increased vibrance a bit.

COMMENTS:
Richard Pease I am always drawn in by waterscapes and this one doesn't fail to engage me. I might have shifted the focus a bit to the right so that the large rock in the bottom was less centered, but overall this is a great image. The color and contrast are interesting as well.

Judy Merson A lovely waterfall with nice effect from the water. I like the rock in the lower left which gives foreground interest.
Fritz Grupe The selection of a shutter speed here is very good. The water isn’t too blurry, nor is it too sharp. The placement of the large rock at the lower left provides weight to the base. Very nice.

Dorinda Wills - Biography

I'm a wife, mother, grandmother.  My husband and I live in Puyallup, Washington and are fortunate to have a view of Mount Rainier from our home.  My husband claims that I could never move away from “the mountain” as we natives call it….and he may be right!  I do love the beauty of the mountain and this state.  We have rain forests on the coast, arid hills in the east and Cascade Mountains and the Columbia River in the middle.  What more could you ask for?!

Other than “snapshot” photography, I have no photography background at all.   I became serious about photography five years ago when I got my first digital camera.   Now I shoot with a Nikon D90.  Lenses include 18-200mm, 12-24mm, 105mm and 300mm.  All are Nikkor.    I just bought a Powershot  G12  as a back-up.  This will be my first experience using a Canon.

My husband and I are active in our local camera club.  I’ve learned a lot from the club members and through club competitions.  Together with my husband, I have also participated in various classes and workshops.   I look back at some of my earlier photos, and see that my photography has improved, but I still consider myself to be a beginner.  I retired in 2010 and so now have more time to travel and to work on developing my skills.

I am new to PSA and am enrolled in the New Member Individualized Course.  This is my first EID group.  I am happy to have both opportunities to share and to learn with others.
