The Fire's Out

How I did it

This is an image in my series of "the best camera is the one you have with you" images.  I took this on my iPhone 4S at Knott's Berry Farm. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Calico Railroad and to celebrate there is a model railroad display setup in the Boardwalk Theatre. After taking the image I applied a filter to make it look like a 70's image and cropped it on my iPad to eliminate distractions in the background (i.e. the head of a volunteer).

Judy Merson Wow! Until you mentioned this was a model I thought it was a real fire. Nice sharp capture of the scene. I was going to say to crop into 2 images, but enlargement might erase the sense of a real scene.
Dorinda Wills You got me with this one!  I thought it was an actual scene until I read your description and looked more closely at the figures.  I like the little bit of railroad track in the lower left corner.  It seems to anchor the scene.  I like the filter you used as well.
Fritz Grupe This is an interesting photo. It looks as though it is a real life fire fight. The color seems too yellow for a fire so this is distracting. I would have eliminated the tracks in the lower left. A closer in photo would be better since there is so much too look at, no single point of focus is present.

Member Bio
Richard Pease - Biography

I have been an amatuer photographer since I was 7 when I got my first camera - a Brownie. Over the years I have shot 110, 35 print, 35 slide and now digital. Since moving to digital I have started shooting much more and taking chances now that I have an unlimited supply of film for life.

I have found that my subject interests are fairly eclectic and I just try to take my camera with me whenever I travel or head out for the day. I look forward to continiung to improve my skill and perhaps by the time I retire I will have a portfolio that can supply me with some walking around money.

On a personal level my wife, Phyllis, and I are Salvation Army officers (did my photo give it away?) who currently live and serve in San Diego, CA. We have three sons - Richard (12), Sean (10) and Trevor (6) who give me an excuse to see new places and shoot new subjects.
