Your description is very helpful as well as interesting. It is hard to shoot "on the run" and you did well. The texture in the pink flower is nice and I like the leaf outside the frame. I find the berry on the left being cut off bothersome and have been told that dead leaves detracts from an image, but know from experience that it is hard to find a "perfect" plant! I would like to see it cropped closer to the flower which is the heart of the picture. |

What an interesting flower. I think the flower itself looks a bit over exposed. I also might like it better if it was cropped in a bit more so the picture is more about the flower. |

I like the different techniques that you use to add something to the image. This image would work better if you cropped off the bottom so that the leaf sticking out would draw your attention more. What I learned from my friend, isolate and simplify. This image would be great if you were able to isolate the flower and leaf. I would also adjust the white balance to make it cooler, With the image warmer it makes the leaves look like they are sick. |

I like the blackened edge with the leaf hanging over the edge. I guess I am not sure where the focal point was as I thought the flower was the subject. But it is not as sharp as I would expect. The red fruit on the left side seems to be more in focus. |

I think that you have a winner with this photo. Your light is good and the subject is in sharp focus. It looks slightly oversaturated on my monitor. The flower is placed on a good power point. I had to look up the sensitive plant, also called sleeping grass. I’ve never seen it in bloom before. Nice job. |

Ellen Beller - Biography
I am currently a student at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI. I am majoring in Wildlife Ecology and Management with a minor in Environmental Science. I grew up in Idaho Falls, ID and the surrounding areas. Since I was young, I was exposed to the outdoors through camping, hiking, skiing and white water rafting. Being in nature drew me to photography. I love the outdoors and I wanted to capture what I saw in photographs. I use a Nikon D50, but I’m still learning all the different settings that I can use. |
