Title - Heron

How I did it -

This heron was sitting in a tree outside my window. I took it the other morning. I lightened his back since the sun was bright coming from the left side.

COMMENTS:

Kathy Brand

Nice exposure with the right light.  The branch at the bottom of the picture gives it bottom weight.

Jon Fishback I think this is a very unusual position for the heron, one that may not garner much enthusiasm from the purist nature people.  But what do I know, I like the straight on portrait.
Benny Baughman This is definatly a different view of a heron. Lightening the back was a good idea, with the background also being light in color. Not putting a catchlight in the left eye was a good idea, since the light would not have gotten there.
Alice Meronek

Nice job with bringing the bird out of the background and evening out the shadows and highlights.

John Pitt
Edwin Roth Nice bird in mating season plumage...good details especially considering the difficult lighting condition.

I have been a photography enthusiast for many years and embraced the hobby in my early twenties. Back in the “olden days” of film I spent many hours in the darkroom developing and making prints. I moved to digital early on, first with point and shoots, and about four years ago got a DSLR and lenses.

My other hobby and passion is bicycling and I take several bike trips each year - domestic and international. Besides the enjoyment of riding, these trips provide great subject material for photography — I find they are very harmonious hobbies.

I have been a member of the Ridgewood Camera Club for two years and just recently joined PSA. Through the camera club and PSA I hope to learn how to improve my work by being exposed to and interacting with a body of talented photographers.

I retired from a long career in marketing at Sony Electronics and can now spend more time pursuing my hobbies. Besides photography, I am a part-time student studying literature and art history.
