January Image: "Looking at the Parrot"

How I did it -

These are pictures I took in Costa Rica. In two other pictures I had these chickens and a parrot. Two chickens are the same and the third is another one. The parrot was in a different photo. I sized them and arranged them. I used  simplify and then "vibrancy" to make the picture pop.

Great combination of colors between the flowers and the parrot. The image has impact.  At first glance I missed the chickens. Perhaps moving them more into the road would add to the composition.

The parrot and the chicken are rather small in the frame. Even though I enlarged the image I couldn’t decide whether the tulips were parrot tulips or not – if so I enjoyed the joke.

The image has great color and a very cute idea to put the bird on the path and looking at the matching colors.  I almost did not see the chickens.  One little picky thing, I wish the original had been behind the image as much as it is in front.  You could have put the original on the bottom right so the image would show to a better advantage.

At first I couldn't see any chickens --they were almost lost among the tulips but after a closer scrutiny, there they were sure enough.  (My eyes were letting me down again.)  In spite of having the chickens for company, the parrot looks rather isolated and somewhat lost.

Carol McDonald - Biography

I am from Ohio where I spent over twenty years in real estate. Photography has been an interest of mine since I was a child. During Christmas break in high school I would help my cousin in her portrait studio. My interest has been in taking Scenery and Macro pictures. After studying Photoshop tutorials for the last three years, I really enjoy finding ways to enhance the visual effects of my photos. I am looking forward to participating in this group and expanding my knowledge.
