January image - Feathering the Nest

How I did it -  There is a photo of our previous home within the frame and the two “people” represent people buying a new home and the feather indicates that they are thinking about the house and what they will put into it.

The Original -

COMMENTS:

Laurie Thompson I downloaded this image to enlarge the area within the frame. I think the house is too obscure in there to be recognizable - It makes one wonder what the image is about without the explanation. The house should be enlarged to be obvious. The backlit feather and the couple work well . A slight drop shadow in front of the frame would help to anchor it. Nice graphic image.
Ruth Rittichier The whole construct of this image is well thought out, and very effective. I like the light-colored, glowing bodies that keep attention on them as the subjects. The darker glow in the background suggests a new dawn for them. The swirled 'old home' gives the impression that their memory of their past home is becoming a distorted memory as they think and plan about the new home. Excellent work.
Warren Davis Vacation
Anna Goodchild Imaginative title & interpretation. The colours & shapes in the feather are echoed in the image of the house. The elements used in the composition are unique and used very effectively. I wonder what is on the flip side of the house image! I like the way the ornament is used as a possible ornament in the house – a house within a house. The peacock feather adds another layer to the idea of decoration – how will the new people decorate Phillipa's ex- house? So we have her personal questioning, from the outside looking in.
Hillary Morin Another very creative composite that tells a story and gives the viewer much to ponder. I would make the photo of the house a little larger perhaps filling 3/4 of the circle for more impact as I wasn't quite sure what it was before reading your description.
Peter Rowley For me the best image of the month. As a surrealistic work I like it a lot. I might add to Phillipa's remarks that the wooden globe and holder might suggest the world is the oyster of the couple, and the nest might be feathered around the globe, wherever they alight.

Biography

Before I retired as an Early Education Teacher I completed a 2 year course in Visual Arts....which seems to have helped me in my work now.
I became interested in photography after I retired around 1996. We were traveling around Australia at the time and when we arrived back home I bought a computer and gave away all my craft accessories because I could see that photography and computers would be quite challenging enough for the rest of my life.

Computers are my husband's life interest and now he is also interested in photography. In 1998 I joined the local camera club and in 1999 I started entering competitions within Australia and Internationally.I also joined the IDIG group based in the UK. We exchanged photos and critiques over the internet on a daily basis. I did this for 2 years and this interaction really helped me to be objective about my images.

Lately I seem to be doing a lot of photography admin. work so am looking forward to exchanging photos and comments here.
I often take photos with the express purpose of making montages of them.
