Title - Magical Quilting Cube 1870
Image Date: June 2008

How I did it -

This image took about 6 layers. First I created the background. Next I built the cube using a shot of a friend's quilt. The I placed a baby I scanned from a cabinet scanned about 1870 AD and placed her on the cube. Finally I stroked a small frame around the image.

COMMENTS:

Joan Field Every time I look at your images they make me smile. I would love to know how your created that radial blast. Maybe you can tell us by email. You're very creative as this image shows. Good composition. Where did you get the concept to use a quilt design?

Linda L. Hudson Very clever - as always. I like the baby sitting atop the quilt cube! I wonder what she sees as she looks into the distance.

Bobbie Delory

Where do you come up with these ideas? Well done as always.

Jarrett Reagan Rick, your imagination is amazing. You do such a wonderful job in the digital darkroom to create works that amaze and amuse. This is full of color and really pops! Wonderful!

Member Bio
Rick Finney - Biography

I was born in Los Angeles. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree (mathematics) in 1960 from Pomona College in Southern California. I taught secondary mathematics in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 33 years.

I was an active member of the Stereo Club of Southern California. I was active in this camera club for over 25 years, holding almost every office in the club.

I joined PSA in the early 1970's and was highly involved in the Stereo Division through the 1990's. I received my APSA in 1982. I won many awards for my photography through the Photographic Society of America.

My partner and I developed several stereo programs. These programs were presented in stereo format with fade and dissolve technique and stereophonic sound.

In 1997 I received my MASTER STEREOGRAPHER AWARD #2 as a star exhibitor in the Stereo Division.

After retiring from teaching in 1995, I moved to Taos, New Mexico, with my lifetime partner and took up weaving, printing, multi-media, and glass fusion workshops through the Taos Institute of Arts. My three great passions are digital photography, fused glass art, and gardening. My interests in photography are stereo (3D) photography, landscapes, and people. Recently, I like to create fantasy photos using photo manipulations. Through Photoshop and other digital techniques, one can develop images which seem to hold light and has become for me a glorious medium of fantasy. I want to develop imagery which contain magical and mystical places, and abstract journeys. I hope to create (using the different tools and processes of PS), digital mind-voyages in vibrant color.

My computer system consists of an Apple G4 with a 23 inch HD display. My printer is an Epson stylus PHOTO RX 700. I'm currently using Photoshop 7. Last semester, I took a digital imaging course (Photoshop 7) at the University of New Mexico, Taos branch. I hope to take the intermediate digital imaging course next semester.
