PHOTO FOR JANUARY 2012 -- SLOW and FAST FLOW

This is the bridge and weir at Bath. I liked the juxtaposition of the slow flowing water coming under the bridge and the fast flowing water as it dropped down the weir.

How I did it -

Rotated slightly to straightened the image
Cropped to square up
Cloned out a distracting seagull
Tweaked contrast in 'Curves'
Finally, reduced to 600px and 300Kb

The bridges makes this shot come alive and well find it to be powerful for us to sense the way the water goes thought it.

A nice view of water-flow picture. I just wonder that it may be an alternative view angle, such as a wider view to see the bridge and water-flow.

This image makes effective use of color and shapes to unite the bridge and water.  The blue contrasts with the sandstone and the arches repeat themselves in the water.

Nice combination of calm and fast flowing water.  The reflection of the bridge adds to the serene feel and leads the eye to the weir.  Beautiful overall lighting.

Member Bio

The appeal of photography has been with me since my teens (so long ago now!) when I bought for first camera, a Praktica LTL3. I progressed through various Minolta cameras both film and digital. I now use a Sony Alpha 350 DSLR and have recently bought a Panasonic Lumix TZ10.

My interest is mainly abstracts/patterns/minimalism but I try to look for things that appeal to me personally. I look upwards as well as down as there's always so much see that is not at eye level. Otherwise, you see only what other people see.

I am a member of a local club (Sodbury & Yate Photographic Club - www.sypc.org.uk) as well as a a creative photography organisation based in Bristol (Second Look  - www.secondlook.org.uk). And, until recently I was also a member of UPP (United Photographic Postfolios - www.uppofgb.com ). I am also a member of one of the PSA CIPD groups.

I enjoy entering competitions to see what judges make of my work. The images that I submit are ones that I enjoy taking but are not often of a style that wins competitions. I'm always looking for something different.

In my biog image, I'm the one without the pipe! :)
