Golden Gate

How I did it

I worked with this image for a while in color and couldn't make it “pop” and then went to b&w. I created a b&w adjustment layer and also adjusted the contrast with another adjustment layer. I’m not happy with the side of the mountain but will look for other ideas from this group.

COMMENTS:

Stan Ashbrook This is a difficult image on purpose. The side of the mountain might be better without trying to show detail which isn't there. Maybe letting it stay all dark would be better. The left 1/3 of the image is dark. Maybe an adjustment layer on this 1/3 would help.
Carol Kane

I can't believe that photo had so much detail. Great job in bringing that out, Dennis.

Karen Leonard
Worth the wait. The b+w solves the exposure issues, or setting sun. You did a great job of dodging and burning in detail.
Peggy Seale I think B&W definitely works best with this picture. This looks like an old newspaper photograph.
William Thompson Perhaps you could dodge the mountain a bit to bring out its' texture, also dodge the bright area in the lower right. B&W worked well here.
Minnie Travis
Nice detail in the dock areas. Definitely better as a B&W. I would still like more contrast.
