August Title - "Merlin Escapes from the Snow"

How I did it -

I photographed a fine art frame in an old monastery and isolated it from its background.  I put my poodle Merlin-running-in-the-snow photo under it, and selected the part of the dog that was hidden and pasted it over the frame.  Then I used the pen tool to make a curved path and stroked it in blue to remake the cord part of the leash. I made a new bottom layer and filled with the warm yellow color.

COMMENTS:

Carole Kropscot I love the way you carried out my assigned subject. That frame is gorgeous. You did a good job capturing it from a museum, photographically speaking, of course. The dog is so cute and perky, just right to be stepping out over the bottom of the frame. That's an interesting technique you used to remake the rest of the leash. I never thought of stroking a path, so I learned something new.
Jenny Gu Beautiful frame.  It looks like real that Poodle Merlin was running out from the frame. Lovely.  However, I would like to see more details in the snow.
David Price Well done! Fabulous frame and suits the grey poodle jumping straight at us. Trivial point but maybe a touch of shadow from the dog on the frame would enhance the 3D effect.

What a great image! I really like the frame you are using.  I think it would be
in a portrait setting. Maybe crop off a inch of the snow from the right side.
Maybe it would be nice to show more texture of the snow.

This is awesome, the way you did it reminds me of the dog shows and all the “tricks” that they do. I like that you kept the leash in the image. It adds more detail to look at.

Ruth Rittichier - Biography

I started photography with my parents' Kodak Brownie and used KODAK 616 film, when I was in high school. My girlfriend and I would process our negatives, and make contact prints in her parents' bathroom. When I had my children, I took photos of them with their dad's 35mm camera, but never did much more until my older son grew up and gave me a Minolta X700 for Xmas. I then joined Toledo Camera Club and other camera clubs, working my way up until I was winning in the top categories. I now belong to 3 local camera clubs, but am competing only in the digital print division, now that they have it, as I don't shoot film anymore. I joined PSA through the camera club, and was active in several of the circuits until PSA started these DI circuits, of which I am a charter member. I love sitting at my computer and making original art out of one of my photos. Now I am learning Painter IX, to be able to make better art from my photos.  I have a Nikon D-200 camera, a Windows HP computer with removable HD, and a 23 inch Apple Cinema monitor.
