January Title - "Carnival Glass"
How I
did it -
As a rule, I
dislike the Find Edges and Poster Edges filters because they
leave blackish artifacts on the
image and dirty it up. So I experimented down the list
of filters to apply to my glassware, and came up with the
Stained Glass filter, set to 22-4-3, foreground color white,
and blending mode to Pin Light. I am fascinated with
the little specular highlights it formed to brighten and
give the bowl more sparkle.

The sparkling effect totally brings out the
point of the picture. The feeling is light and airy and almost
fantasy-like. It reminds me of glassware I've seen lit up in a
museum or specialty store, where the emphasis is on the sparkly effect
produced by the cut glass. |

Beautiful glassware
with sparkling! The pink glass fits nicely with white background. The
frame fits very well with the photo. I like the frame showed 3D feature.
It is an elegant piece of art. |

The Stained Glass filter in my opinion is
an excellent choice to amplify the cutting of the crystal bowl.
The pink frame gives a real nice finishing touch. |

Some of the edge finding filters, I think
would have added to the total presentation. I really like the border
and the color you chose. I really like the title in the border.

It is interesting to see how different
filters affect the same subject, and how much brighter the altered
glasses are. You did a good job. |

Biography
I
started photography with my parents' Kodak Brownie
and used KODAK 616 film, when I was in high school.
My girlfriend and I would process our negatives, and
make contact prints in her parents' bathroom. When I
had my children, I took photos of them with their
dad's 35mm camera, but never did much more until my
older son grew up and gave me a Minolta X700 for
Xmas. I then joined Toledo Camera Club and other
camera clubs, working my way up until I was winning
in the top categories. I now belong to 3 local
camera clubs, but am competing only in the digital
print division, now that they have it, as I don't
shoot film anymore. I joined PSA through the camera
club, and was active in several of the circuits
until PSA started these DI circuits, of which I am a
charter member. I love sitting at my computer and
making original art out of one of my photos. Now I
am learning Painter IX, to be able to make better
art from my photos. I have a Nikon D-200 camera, a
Windows HP computer with removable HD, and a 23 inch
Apple Cinema monitor.
