Writings on the Wall through Time

How I did it -

I have wondered if petroglyphs were a way for ancient man to tell a story, or was it an art form, or was it the equivalent of today’s graffiti. So I wanted to graphically show this idea. I started with petroglyphs and blended in graffiti on the right side. I then used different timepieces from older, hourglass, to modern, digital to show the passage of time. I am not 100% happy with what I have, it seems a little dull to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Member's Biography
Sam Shaw FPSA, PPSA

I was born in California and have lived here my whole life except for the time I spent in the Navy. I am married and have two children, a son and a daughter. After high school and the Navy I attended a Junior College where I received an Associates of Arts degree, then on to a California State College where I received a Bachelors of Science degree, major in Mathematics and minor in Physics.

After working for about six years, I went back to school at night and earned a Masters degree in Computer Science. My main work background has been with computers, programming and systems design. I have written programs in 10 to 12 computer languages.

For the past 28 years, I have been in management in everything from Data Processing, Benefits, Property Management, Risk Management, Pension, Records Retention and am now doing special projects in the financial area.

I have been interested in photography since high school but am relatively new to camera clubs and PSA. I joined the Modesto Color Camera Club and PSA in 1993, and started international competitions in 1995. Currently I have 4 stars in Color, 3 in Nature (with enough acceptances for my 4th), 3 in Photojournalism, and 3 in Travel.

I started producing the newsletter for the camera club the first year I joined, and have been the president of the Modesto Club and the San Joaquin Council. I have also been the PSA Nature Division Exhibition Standards Chairman for two years and I am currently the Chairman for the Nature Division of PSA. I was the 2000 PSA International General Chairman.

I've produced programs on Digital Imaging, Color topics, Travel destinations and Photojournalism, these have been shown at local travel and service groups, camera clubs, Gold Rush Chapter, Foto-Clave and the PSA International Conference.

I use Canon equipment and have for as long as I have had a 35 mm camera. I really enjoy being able to merge photography and computers. I do tend toward creating weird images rather than fixing up photographs.
