January - The Opera House

How I did it -

The attached image was taken inside the Paris opera house. This was a difficult exposure to get perfect, with bright lights, natural light entered from the right and lots and lots of gold. I used the iPad and an APP called Snapseed. I first converted the image to b&w. I cropped the image to a square format. I also applied to adjustment points on the chandeliers to reduce the brightness. I purposely created the image in a high contrast tone. I sharpened the image to try and bring out detail. I added a slightly rustic border as well. I only wish there were no tourists in my image, although the people add some depth and size.

COMMENTS:

Angelo Meini . Elegant image. A dynamic perspective. The contrast is very suitable chosen, the image is balanced. Excellent.
Anne Davey .I rather like the people in the image. The b & w creates an old-fashioned feel. The young people add a curiousness that appeals to me..
Betty Billingham .Super place and super picture you have produced though I would darken the floor in foreground a bit. This picture is very 'alive'. I like the people as they add perspective. However if you want to remove people, just take two pictures from the same spot with a delay between and, putting them on two layers, just remove the people using a layer mask - then combine the layers.
Bill Thompson . You certainly get good results with the iPad. If you have Photoshop CS5 you could clone out the tourists using Spot Healing Content Aware. However, I rather like the figures in the image, they add a human touch..
Kathy Potter ..
Mark Southard .Beautiful image and excellent composition - the choice of monochrome fits well. The floor highlights are a bit too bright for my taste..

Member's Biography
Bob Feinberg

I was born in Brooklyn , NY and started my love for photography when I was 13 years old. My father had given me a 35mm Argus C3 he purchased while in the Army. I used that camera until I bought my first SLR, a Miranda. I had my own darkroom for years and eventually moved to processing color Cibachromes.

I moved to Florida in 1974 and continued my love for photography.

I have owned several pieces of Nikon gear over the years. I embraced digital photography early on. I currently own a Nikon D90 and D80 used for backup. I have more lenses than one could every carry. I use a Gitzo Traveler tripod. I have an Olympus SP5500 I use as a point and shoot.

I belong to the Pines West Camera Club and have won several competitions. I have had images published in Popular Photography and the US National Park Newsletter. I won 2nd prize in the US National Parks Annual Photo Contest. I enjoy all types of photography. I especially love, landscape, nature, macro and sports. I have done freelance work for the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. I have travelled for business over the past 25 years, and have visited many cities in the US, Europe, and South America. I also have the Florida Everglades at my door step.

I use a MAC computer system and Epson P2200 printer. I use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for most of my digital work, along with CS3, Dynamic Photo HDR, and various Photoshop Plug ins.

I like traditional photography, but do like to experiment with the abstract for fun.
