July - kalidascope

How I did it -

Ok, a bit out of the ordinary. This image was created using an iPad application call Kaliedoscope. The original image as seen above was taken with a Nikon D80 and 100mm MACRO lens. Image was optimized in Photoshop Lightroom 2.0. I then brought the image into my iPad and ran the application. The program has many options, and continues to generate random kaliedoscope images. They can then be captured by pressing a button and saved. I then brought the image back into Lightroom and adjusted some contrast etc. The image can also be created to take up the entire frame. However, I like the true kaliedoscope type image

COMMENTS:

Betty Billingham This is an unbelievably fascinating pattern which you have created from a single flower, and I would like to see more of it. By adding copies you could develop this into a larger image which when nicely framed would be just right to hang on the wall.
Leonie Holmes I really like this kaleidoscope effect. It's different and can be applied to many subjects by the look of it. Well done.
Mark Southard This is most impressive and certainly makes me want to try it . I like the color, the shape and the clarity!
Paula Davies I like this effect, especially the pictures within pictures. It certainly reminds me of a kaleidoscope which I had as a child.
Sam Shaw Nothing wrong with a little out of the ordinary. I find it interesting that the iPad has an application to do this. I like what you have made out of the flower and the saturation of the colors. Not sure why it is right up against the frame on the left.
Witta Priester How wonderful! I really like this (especially the black outlines), and I think you've selected a super image for your conversion. Indeed, I liked it so well that I took a quick look on the web and found a free Photoshop plug-in that works pretty well, though the result is not as cool as with your software. For those who want to try the plug-in, here is the link: http://www.mehdiplugins.com/index.htm I expect there are other kaleidoscope plug-ins out there as well. I'd be interested in a link, if you find one you like. .

Member's Biography
Bob Feinberg

I was born in Brooklyn , NY and started my love for photography when I was 13 years old. My father had given me a 35mm Argus C3 he purchased while in the Army. I used that camera until I bought my first SLR, a Miranda. I had my own darkroom for years and eventually moved to processing color Cibachromes.

I moved to Florida in 1974 and continued my love for photography.

I have owned several pieces of Nikon gear over the years. I embraced digital photography early on. I currently own a Nikon D90 and D80 used for backup. I have more lenses than one could every carry. I use a Gitzo Traveler tripod. I have an Olympus SP5500 I use as a point and shoot.

I belong to the Pines West Camera Club and have won several competitions. I have had images published in Popular Photography and the US National Park Newsletter. I won 2nd prize in the US National Parks Annual Photo Contest. I enjoy all types of photography. I especially love, landscape, nature, macro and sports. I have done freelance work for the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. I have travelled for business over the past 25 years, and have visited many cities in the US, Europe, and South America. I also have the Florida Everglades at my door step.

I use a MAC computer system and Epson P2200 printer. I use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for most of my digital work, along with CS3, Dynamic Photo HDR, and various Photoshop Plug ins.

I like traditional photography, but do like to experiment with the abstract for fun.
