"Everyone Has to Eat Sometime"
|
How I did it -
I shot this at Butterfly World, here in Coral Springs, Florida where I often
go if I have some free time. It was the first time that I was able to get
close enough to a flower with a bee actively enjoying his thing. I think it
could use some improvement and am open to suggestions.

The flower and bee are nice
and sharp. I would suggest selecting the flower, inverting the
selection, then working on the background to make it less confusing.
There are a number of ways to accomplish this in Photoshop.

Beverly, you have done
well to crop tightly onto the flower which is well exposed with good
detail in the shadows and highlights. It is a pity that there are some
black halos around the edges of the pink flowers which look like
selection artifacts. The bright leaves in the background are a touch
distracting and need toning down. You might like to play around with
cropping tightly onto the bee and leaving only part of the flower
visible which would exclude the background distractions. |

You asked for
suggestions....I would tone down the highlights on the petals and work
on the background distractions. You have a nice sharp center of
interest. |

I like the colors and
the bee adds interest. The background is too prominent and needs
cleaning up. |

The only thing I
suggest is to remove distraction from the background and leave green
leaf on left side as is that leads to your main subject Bee. You will
feel the difference after you have done it. |

Passion flowers are so
gorgeous to photograph and the green versus the red is wonderful. The
leaves of the passion flower distract from the green bug. My eye went
for the leaves right away and later saw the bug. Perhaps is you make the
bug more of a focal point and darken the leaves up front. |

Beverly Caine - I began my interest in photography about 1977
when we were planning a trip to Europe and I threatened my husband,
telling him if he fell over another bench while taking pictures I would
leave him there. He suggested I take a course. I did, After my first
course, I submitted a photo I took in Madeira to a local contest and
took first place winning a week in Mexico, and the rest is history. I am
a semi-retired travel agent, living in Boynton Beach, FL., and my love
of travel offers me many opportunities to enjoy my photography hobby. I
also enjoy photographing people and flowers.
