July Title -
Leafy
Sea Dragon
How I did it -
This unlikely-looking animal is a relative of the sea horse,
as one might surmise. It
lives off the shores of Tasmania and has, obviously,
developed a rather unique and effective defensive
camouflage. It floats quietly about eating whatever swims
by. This was taken with a Canon 40D at 22 mm focal length
and ISO 1600
at 1/10 second and f8 with the camera pressed against the
glass of the aquarium. No flash or
light alteration used.

I've been a semi-professional photographer for
about 15 years and an enthusiast since
childhood. My main interest is nature and
outdoor, with no people unless required for
scale. My work took a big leap forward in 1992
when I joined the Nevada Camera Club in Las
Vegas, a group of incredibly talented amateur
and professional image makers. Working with and
learning from them, I was Nevada Photographer of
the Year in 1997, just as I moved to Southern
California and joined two camera clubs and the
Southern California Council of Camera Clubs
(S4C). Also, in 1994, I joined NANPA (North
American Nature Photography Association), and
served on their Board of Directors, 2001-2004. I
led two annual Summit meetings with NANPA, 1997
in Corpus Christi, and 2001 in Las Vegas.
A practicing
physician, I now live in Western Pennsylvania,
having moved here from California and earlier
from Florida where I worked for 4 years in the
Fort Lauderdale area. I briefly served as
chairman of Everglades PSA Chapter before my
move.
