Title - Kissing Rocks in the Clouds
How I did it
- This image was taken during my visit last September to
Estes Colorado. I climbed up to the area of the "Kissing
rocks" for this shot. I wanted to enhance the rocks by
giving an impression that they were in the clouds and at the
same time to isolate the kissing portion of the rocks.
I used several Flypaper Textures to accomplish this
impression. I wanted to see if this approach was feasible.
My brush work needs more practice, I admit.

I can understand what you are trying to
achieve. The colour of the rocks is stunning. However I feel that the
'kissing Rocks' are a bit too small in the frame. Also some of the
work you have carried out gives the impression of lens flare rather
than the clouds you were trying to create. |

Until I read the caption
I missed to point of the shot. The colors are engaging and the angles
are nice. If the kissing rocks are what is seen in the top of the rock
formation, though, the picture does not speak for itself and the
center of interest is rather too small. I would try to zoom in more,
among other things.

Nice capture, but looks like a lens glare
across photo.

Nice photo although I
think Kissing Rocks would have been better without the “cloud” |

I am a retired US Army
Lieutenant Colonel. Currently I am a Councilman
in the Town of Vienna, Virginia. Married, two
daughters and two grandchildren.
My journey into photography
began in earnest in 2004. I took several
photography courses to include the darkroom. I
was designing an area in my home to build a
darkroom and my wife gave me a digital camera.
That accomplished two things, the house was safe
from a renovation and I could continue my
pursuit of photography. I completed the Digital
Photography Course at the New York Institute Of
Photography. As I began to seek and photography
various subjects, my interest leaned toward
landscape and floral photography. I joined my
local photography club as well as NANPA and the
Carolinas’ Nature Photographers Association (CNPA).
The past two years have taken me to many
gardens, waterfalls, parks, and historical
points of interest in Arizona, along the eastern
seaboard, Maryland, Mississippi, Louisiana,
North Carolina and West Virginia.
Last year I held my
first art show. It was a well received and
profitable show. Recently one of my images
received Honorable Mention in the Burke and
Herbert Bank’s 2010 Calendar photographic
contest.
