June Image - Watching Me Watching Her

A female orangutan caught me watching her and calmly stared back, analyzing me and piercing into my mind with the look of a fellow man. Canon XTi, ISO 400, 170-500 mm Sigma lens and tripod, zoo subject.

Photo is a wonderful composition, with excellent shadows without  distortions.  Very crisp, clear subject with a great expression and color is stabilized.

John Hackett A great portrait of the orangutan. The tight crop concentrates the attention on its expression, and the 'hand' adds balance.

This is a great picture of your subject. Maybe it is cropped too
tight. I think I would like to see more of her head and all of the hand.
The eyes are great.

Richard Perkins

I've been a semi-professional photographer for about 15 years and an enthusiast since childhood. My main interest is nature and outdoor, with no people unless required for scale. My work took a big leap forward in 1992 when I joined the Nevada Camera Club in Las Vegas, a group of incredibly talented amateur and professional image makers. Working with and learning from them, I was Nevada Photographer of the Year in 1997, just as I moved to Southern California and joined two camera clubs and the Southern California Council of Camera Clubs (S4C). Also, in 1994, I joined NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association), and served on their Board of Directors, 2001-2004. I led two annual Summit meetings with NANPA, 1997 in Corpus Christi, and 2001 in Las Vegas.

A practicing physician, I now live in Western Pennsylvania, having moved here from California and earlier from Florida where I worked for 4 years in the Fort Lauderdale area. I briefly served as chairman of Everglades PSA Chapter before my move.
