Title: "Anger"
How I did it:
This is essentially a straight shot, with minimal contrast and saturation changes, plus cropping and background darkening.. I was trying to portray emotion for a camera club competition. The amazing thing is the dog was not actually upset and is very docile and sweet.

Good cath. It shows the moment and expression (even not quite true as you mention).
I would rid of collar because is distracting a lot. From my experience using path tool is the quickest in this situation. See below. I used path tool for smaller pieces in destination mode. Some red still existed in the fur that I reduced by using curves for red channel

WOW! You could have fooled me that this guy is "docile and sweet". Some images just hold up because of the subject and strong photographic technique. This is one of them. The only things I would do is clean up some bright areas in the background and select the whole file and run a dark line to hide the few bright spots on the edge as well.

I don't do much animal photography and so I really appreciate the ability shown here to capture moving targets. I definitely would not risk trying to pet this "doggie" if I was there. The colors are realistic with what looks like great exposure. I would like to see the collar monitor darker and maybe also the dog's head. The bright spots at the image bottom are a little distracting.

I am surprised when you said that the dog was not actually upset and is very docile and sweet. By looking at your image, it seems to me that he is going to chew out somebody. Nice shot to show the anger of your dog! I’d prefer to sharpen a bit at the face of the dog. |

O Grandmother, what sharp teeth you have. The light spot in front of the dog’s nose suggests that there is smoke coming out of his nose helping to tell the story of anger. The catch light in his eye is a plus. This is a beautiful dog and I know from personal experience how sweet they are. |

I became interested in photography as a junior in high school in 1960. I was an Army brat in Germany, and had access to a darkroom on base. In college, Later I was a staff photographer on the college newspaper (U of MD Diamondback). Then I enlisted in the Army, worked 33 years with computers for the local phone company (now Verizon), and retired at the end of 2003. Now I finally have time to get back to photography! I went digital in 2005 with a Canon EOS 20D, then realized I had to learn Photoshop as well. After a good class at Montgomery College, I finally understand at least the basics of Photoshop, so now I'm anxious to get busy! I have not entered any competitions yet, but expect to start shortly.
