Title - Memphis Blues

How I did it -

Very careful cropping, brightening, and some color manipulation was used. My goal was to capture a sense of the blues.

Maria Korab-Laskowska It is the type of photo that you do not realize how difficult it is until you try. Congrats! – All works here. Looking at the Masters the geometry of the image is a must but have to be something else  ...
Tom Icklan I am a great fan of "street photography" and just know you have a very good capture here. "Blues" in the window matched with the down trodden look of the man certainly tells a story. Please be advised there are many in the photography community that will reject your style because it isn't "pretty". I hope you have time to see the work of others on the internet that specialize in this genre and realize the skill and sensitivity needed to succeed. Keep up the good work.
Fred Kuhns  I’d say you have realized your goal; you really captured the mood on many levels ... perfect! I’ve not developed a feel for street photography since I have focused (pun) on other types of photography. But from what I have seen this photo has got all the right elements. You have employed compositional techniques to create emotional tension like the location of the man (walking out of the frame), the waste can, the overhang on the right border (suggesting there is more, a technique in Japanese art), the empty street on the left, the trash on the top of the object on the left, etc. Well done Rawligh.
Annette Chiu I see a lots of red color but not blue. The person is walking out of the picture that make it uncomfortable.to me.
Phil Geraci Nice. Reminds me of a picture I made right out of high school while working a summer for a local photographer in Frederick, Md. There was then a newspaper store across the street, with locals leaning against walls, poles, etc. Your image is a lot more colorful, since mine was shot in black and white from the photo lab window. But the mood of both pictures is the same. I like yours better for the color, but mine for the nostalgia. Both are an essential part of the local "color" of the areas photographed.
Linda Phelps Nice strong documentary image! I like the fact that the colors are simple. All the red pulls the composition together! Glad you included the man in the frame.

I became interested in photography as a junior in high school in 1960. I was an Army brat in Germany, and had access to a darkroom on base. In college, Later I was a staff photographer on the college newspaper (U of MD Diamondback). Then I enlisted in the Army, worked 33 years with computers for the local phone company (now Verizon), and retired at the end of 2003. Now I finally have time to get back to photography! I went digital in 2005 with a Canon EOS 20D, then realized I had to learn Photoshop as well. After a good class at Montgomery College, I finally understand at least the basics of Photoshop, so now I'm anxious to get busy! I have not entered any competitions yet, but expect to start shortly.
