Title: Focused
How I did it:
Nikon D200, 50mm 1.8 lens, 1/100sec. at f 5.6. Post processed to enhance color and contrast with sharpening. Comment: While on an errand in downtown Topeka, I happened to have my camera and noticed work being done to renovate a building. I was impressed by how focused this individual was on his work and stood there taking several images. I decided to crop such that there is just enough information to place the person in context.Happily, the red railing gave a nice contrast to the other colors, without overwhelming the scene.

To me this is very good shot with very precise composition so it looks clean and simple. All the elements in the frame add to the story. If given opportunity I would try shot from slightly different angle (more from the right) so his hands and work would be better seen.

Tom Icklan This is a very exciting image. The thing that amazes me the most is that this photo contains numerous elements but somehow the excellent composition gives the impression of simplicity. One very small nit- pic. The wonderful inclusion of the welding flair may be improved with a small amount of shading to pinpoint the light.

Debra Thompson I like the action in this image and the contrast of the blue tiles and the red railing. After trying to do some street photography this month and not being too successful, I think you've done a great job! I think there is still too much distracting detail on the LHS of the image and cropping in even tighter on this side directs the eye more readily to the subject.

It seems like I have always had a camera of some sorts, especially after my children were born. In 1976, we moved to Topeka, Kansas from Chicago. My professional career was spent in diagnostic radiology (a truly black and white world ). In 2000, I attended my first workshop under the direction of John Shaw and Joseph van Os. No question that I was hooked on learning more and improving my skills. My interests are primarily nature, macro and architecture. I am a member of the Topeka Camera Club and the Topeka Art Guild. I only recently joined the PSA but already sense the warmth of membership and the shared joy of image making. I retired completely in 2008 and have enjoyed the greater amount of time I can now allot to my photography and post-processing. Part of the year we live in Gunnison, Colorado which affords a variety of conditions for amazing photo opportunities.
