Title - Reflect On Yellow
June 2008 Image
|
How I did it - While returning home from a trip back East, we stayed in a motel that had a long narrow pond on the western side. I notice this reflection of a traffic signal and got the camera. My point-and-shoot camera is normally set on 'A' with everything else automatic. So I got a lousy exposed, out of focus image. Next, out comes the tripod and the camera is set on manual including the focus. Now I controlled the focus and the exposure and this is the result. This is pretty much a straight shot right out of the camera except I flipped the image horizontally so the reflections would descend to the right.

You have a good eye but I think the gray water maybe could use some color.

At first look I thought you had taken up Chinese writing. However, this image ;just doesn’t have enough interest.

Reflections are gifts to photographers and you captured this intriguing one. You've got the trilogy that is so dynamic in photographs. Might have also been interesting to see close up of just one of the yellow reflections to capture more of the black outline zigzag in the water.

I first started photography serious in the late 50's and have been pursuing it ever since. My first 35 years were strictly black and white film and I had my own darkroom and did all of the processing. At first, I read and followed the teachings of Ansel Adams but soon realized that was a hopeless task. I did learn good darkroom and camera technique, and as my photography interests changed those things stuck. By the 1990's I discovered color and my photography life changed 180 degrees. Likewise, by 1995 digital was playing an ever increasing role and by the late 90's I donated all of the darkroom equipment to the local Community College and my life has been digital ever since. Even though I have discontinued exhibiting in PSA salons, I have three stars in large B&W prints and one star in large color prints.
